This is a great Blog unifying both theoretical and practical interests in film teaching. I completely agree, in order to be creative in industry practice it helps to have developed critical skills. I am however still looking for a place on the web where all the parties are having a good debate about this. Your site is vibrant and expansive - surely this must be unique on the web? Also, as this is my current interest, have you looked into e-learning in teaching film & TV?

Keep up the good work

Mike.
When i type in; "Mike Jones" and "Film" into google, your page shouldnt be on the third page of results. Should be No.1 yo.
No one ever goes past the first page of results.
I thought someone(Mike Jones) knew how to sell themselves?

So. After school. I felt i was a bit lacking, at a couple of things.
The first and foremost was how to 'be' and function as a human.
Especially around other...you know...humans, without such liberal amounts of fear and hate.

So i went back to the psychologist who initially suggested i go to film school, and went back to researching psychology, philosophy, and human history - the how, the why and the what of human behavior.

Long story short. 75,000 years ago 600 people migrated to the shores of africa and had to learn how the tides worked in order to survive.
Because of this people started to bling themselves out hard, so, obviously, my problems are solved.

Using my renewed ability to operate on a level closer to ubermensch, and the knowledge that every revolution has failed because people have aimed to kill history, destroy the deus ex machina - we have decided we will make the current Australian film industry obsolete by constantly producing cheap well written well made films.
Mike a Cannon d5 is only $3000 for the body. That's full 1080p with a chip larger then the reds. It sees in the dark better then your eyes ><
Sure handheld is essentially a myth using it but cmon! At that price>< These things are only going to get more and more affordable.
Every person that commits to this collaborative, DIY effort is essentially one less person folding into the mass media machine.
What will they do when there is no talent left to frankenstein the latest bloated mess?

We have been doing some hard editing as of late.
You know that hard kind.
The kind that makes you drip. Were you spend more time climbing over rocks then in front of a computer, meditating like a wanker infront of the waves crashing on the shore, then crashing on your face.

I don't care what you give me; The B-roll of a student film, shot in the film school itself
"The best of" dads old super 8 Home video collection
That odd image you get when you're sick of the film your working on and grind the lens of the camera into the hard concrete.

Any of the above, myself and my crack team will chill at the beach nonstop, until we return with something that makes crying chic.

So, maybe, this Guest book isn't the place for all this.
And sure, Ive now found a way to contact you through the AFTRS website.
But it's too late Mike. Get over it.
I know. Your meticulously well kept site.
I know.
What will people say? When they see what kind of dubious ruffians, you associate yourself with.

I'm not sure Mike...but I'm sure ill be saying it with them.

Hi Mike ... You got me hooked on machinima with your article "[The] Vanishing Point: Spatial Composition and the Virtual Camera" and now I'm hip-deep in building simulations and role-play communities in SecondLife. I'd love to talk with you about it. ...Kind regards, Asil

Congratulations on getting your new site together. I like the design and layout. Much easier to find your media. I'll be sure to tell others about the new site. Good luck, Mike.
